Gord Downie has left us another gift.

One day before the third anniversary of The Tragically Hip frontman's death will see the release of Downie's final solo recording, Away is Mine, on Oct. 16.

With the band lineup of guitarist-co-writer Josh Finlayson, of The Skydiggers; Travis Good, of The Sadies, on fiddle, mandolin, and guitar; Dave 'Billy Ray' Koster and Louis Downie — Gord's son — on drums; and Nyles Spencer as producer, mixer and engineer, Downie's new disc is a double album with electric and acoustic versions of 10 songs.

'This won't be his last release, but these are the final 10 songs Gord sang before he passed away. The last time he ever sang into a mic,' Finlayson and Gord's brother, Patrick Downie, wrote in a joint statement. 'That's pretty special to us.

'There really wasn't a plan to make a record,' Finlayson added. 'The whole thing was that I knew this was a great way to spend time with Gord, listening to music, talking about music, talking about things that we'd always talked about. And this just evolved pretty organically.'

Away is Mine follows a prolific time in Downie's life which saw the release of The Tragically Hip's Man Machine Poem (2016) and his solo records, Secret Path (2016) and Introduce Yerself (2017).
